<title>And by that I mean, what hardware and software. I&#8217;m just curious and it seems a nice change of pace. I don&#8217;t know if we&#8217;ll see any patterns at all.

Please name the web browser you use when you come here (if in doubt, it&#8217;s probably some version of Internet Explorer), the operating system (if in doubt, it&#8217;s probably some version of Windows. Specify if you can.), and the type of computer you&#8217;re using (The brand will do).

Then specify your sex and how you identify yourself vis-a-vis gender issues.

Taking myself as an example

web browser: Iceweasel aka Firefox
operating system: Debian GNU/Linux 4.0
hardware: a Compaq Deskpro EN made in 2000 purchased use then refurbished, upgraded, and customized.

sex: male
affiliation: feminist sympathizer
Lioness, operating system?
aww, I was hoping, given your work, that you might be running OpenBSD!
Patois

I don&#8217;t consider it rude, but if you do I respect your right not to answer.

Never give out your IP address (unless it&#8217;s something like 192.168.0.X or you give 127.0.0.1 &#8211; sorry, geek humor. No, just never give out your IP address.)

As for vulnerability due to software, most people use a recent version of Windows and IE and if someone wants to crack you, they&#8217;ll try exploits for those first (but since we&#8217;re all communicating through a centralized system here, the chances of that are NIL) without needing to be told what you use.
btw, I frequent many forums where computer-savvy people gather and discussing one&#8217;s hardware and software choices is common. And many of these people also happen to be very aware of computer security. In those settings it isn&#8217;t considered impolite, nor is it deemed to support &#8220;hackers&#8221; (by which I assume you mean crackers and other online vadals. A hacker is a good thing. Don&#8217;t believe the hype.)
spelling: vandals</title>

<title>And what did you get out of it?

Around 1997, I used to troll forums frequented by users of Slackware Linux, making fun of their preferred systems lack of technical features present in Debian GNU/Linux. (For those who don&#8217;t know Linux: at that time, commercial organizations tended to use Red Hat, but &#8220;geeks&#8221; were split about evenly between Debian and Slackware loyalists. Now, Slackware is a &#8220;niche&#8221; distribution and Debian is constantly growing and spawning derivatives, because it is superior&#8230;. oops, old habits.)

Anyway, it was just fun arguing with people, provoking, getting people to take themselves way too seriously. I suppose that&#8217;s why &#8211; though I can&#8217;t abide certain trolling (There&#8217;s no such thing as taking rape &#8220;too seriously&#8221;.), I can still appreciate a lot of it and don&#8217;t necessarily assume a truly malicious intent.

Anyone else ever trolled who doesn&#8217;t troll now?
Oracle, I saw a bit of that on one of your questions. The individual behind the rumors is quite unbalanced. Best to ignore them.
beɪəwʊlf, multiple accounts is your MO, not mine.</title>
