Well, I was installing debian this morning, I attempted to resize my hard drive because around 18.6gb out of 74.4 was free so I resized my partition, but I didn’t notice that the installer was set to EXT3 instead of leave filesystem intact… so now I’m left with an EXT3 partition set up as /. How can I recover it? I tried looking at it with all kinds of recovery utilities on my 2nd pc but no dice. there was some pretty important stuff, but I guess I’ll live if its totally unrecoverable. Also, the hard disk was formatted with NTFS and had Windows XP home edition SP3 on it. It was only a quick format though, as testdisk 6.10 found some different file systems.

I know some people can…but I don’t know if my BIOS is new enough…When I go the the settings for the my BIOS, USB isn’t in the list of things I can boot from, but I have a pretty new computer, I really thought it would work. I have an HP a6317c, does anyone know if it’ll work?

P.S. Planning to install Debian to a USB HD, I know how and everything…just have to remember to tell it to put GRUB on HD 1 instead of 0.

Is it necessary to have a graphics card in order to run Ragnarok Online on Wine?

I tried playing the game using the following specs:

Machine: Dell Dimension L Series Desktop
Current Graphics: Intel Integrated Graphics
Current Operating System: Debian Etch 4.0
CPU & Speed: Intel Pentium 3 @ 1.000 GHz
Hard Drive: 160GB
RAM: 128MB

using Wine 1.1.1. The game starts out slow, and in the end result, the game just crashed on me, with my character and stats incompletely loaded. Would I have to get a PCI graphics card for it?

Additional Details: I cannot get another computer because of very limited budget and this is the one I’m trying to use more often.

It’s a newly-installed OS, and >100GB of free space. and I’m not talking about playing the game in Windows. I mean in Linux.

Het schijnt er niet in slagen om deze grafiekkaart tijdens laars omhoog te laden. Is het eenvoudig onverenigbaar? Ik weet voor een feit dat de pit aan laars wegens deze kaart ontbreekt.

Well, I think im going to buy the parts individually online probably on newegg. I think im going to put debian or ubuntu on it, definitely a linux. My brother build a computer himself, its amazing and he has better specs than most 700$ computers that you could buy from microsoft. The total cost of his parts were about 360$ So far I understand that im going to need, a case, a hard drive, a mother board, a wi fi card, a graphics card, a CD drive, a power source, and a monitor. Am i missing any parts? does anyone have any good suggestions for the specs that isnt too expensive?

I just recently got hold of a Dell Poweredge 2400 server and succeeded in installing Debian Etch on it, so far without any problems save one, that is that the server powers itself on at precisely 22:40 (BST) each night. I thought initially that the server had just powered itself on by chance but I have observed it for a few days now and the time it does so, is consistently 22:40. I’m assuming that this has been set somewhere to power on at a specific time of day but I don’t see anything in the BIOS for this and don’t know how to either clear it or set a new time. Has anyone come across this and know how to change it? Thanks in advance. Daryl. I’ve since found that there are three BIOS parameters: AutoOn, AutoOnHour and AutoOnMinute, which I guess have been set on this server. How to reset or set them however, is another matter. AutoOn (sint32) Defines the auto-on configuration: disabled, every day, or weekdays (Monday through Friday). 1-Other, 2-Unsupported, 3-Disabled, 4-Every day, 5-Weekdays AutoOnHour (sint32) Defines the hour to turn on the system. 0–23 AutoOnMinute (sint32) Defines the minute setting for when to turn on the system. 0–59
