In Linux, Wat is een Desktop Environment voor? KDE vs Debian?

I just setup Pardus (distributie van Linux), en maakt gebruik van KDE (K Desktop Environment), ik had gebruikt Ubuntu vóór en die gebruik maakt van Debian (ik ben toch?) Dus wat is het verschil tussen Debian en KDE en doet dit me beperken van het gebruik van bepaalde toepassingen (programma's), maakt het uit wat moeilijker / makkelijker Wat zijn de nadelen / voors van KDE en Debian (Waarom zijn er verschillende desktop omgevingen?) Is er een reden voor mij om over te schakelen op Ubuntu (ik wil beginnen met een goede OS en Pardus lijkt gemakkelijker te gebruiken, maar zijn gemakkelijker te vinden documentatie op Ubuntu) Bedankt, er ubuntu dat wordt geleverd met KDE? niet mijn Q maar …. Dus doet Debian KDE en alle applicaties

How many gbs or gigs do top OS take?

Also,
I heard ubuntu 7.04 was 3 gigs or somethings, and that vista was only 2. I thought linux was always smaller than anything Microsoft. Can anyone verify that as well? I could be wrong.

Well, I was installing debian this morning, I attempted to resize my hard drive because around 18.6gb out of 74.4 was free so I resized my partition, but I didn’t notice that the installer was set to EXT3 instead of leave filesystem intact… so now I’m left with an EXT3 partition set up as /. How can I recover it? I tried looking at it with all kinds of recovery utilities on my 2nd pc but no dice. there was some pretty important stuff, but I guess I’ll live if its totally unrecoverable. Also, the hard disk was formatted with NTFS and had Windows XP home edition SP3 on it. It was only a quick format though, as testdisk 6.10 found some different file systems.

Can I boot from an External HD?

I know some people can…but I don’t know if my BIOS is new enough…When I go the the settings for the my BIOS, USB isn’t in the list of things I can boot from, but I have a pretty new computer, I really thought it would work. I have an HP a6317c, does anyone know if it’ll work?

P.S. Planning to install Debian to a USB HD, I know how and everything…just have to remember to tell it to put GRUB on HD 1 instead of 0.

I’m using Fiesty Fawn. On Ubuntu, if an app isn’t a Debian package, then I have to compile it or use the terminal. I couldn’t even install Flash Player without the terminal. I found an app caled Automatix that makes some things easier. What’s a distro that is all GUI based? I don’t like doing things from the terminal, it’s confusing. I hear Suse is good, but what’s the best for noobs like me?
